The fourteen-gill hagfish (Eptatretus polytrema), Bischoff's hagfish (Eptatretus bischoffii) and the Valparaiso hagfish (Eptatretus nanii) are all known only from a few specimens collected along the coast of Chile, where they are potentially threatened by fisheries bycatch.
