The sharp-beaked yellowfish (Labeobarbus acutirostris), Gorguar's yellowfish (Labeobarbus gorguari), Dainelli's yellowfish (Labeobarbus dainellii), large-eyed yellowfish (Labeobarbus macrophtalmus), flat-backed yellowfish (Labeobarbus platydorsus), Rüppell's yellowfish (Labeobarbus surkis), long yellowfish (Labeobarbus longissimus), Osse yellowfish (Labeobarbus osseensis), Gorgor yellowfish (Labeobarbus gorgorensis), and the thick-barbed yellowfish (Labeobarbus crassibarbis) are all endemic to Lake Tana and its feeder rivers, where they are threatened by overfishing, habitat destruction and damming projects that obstruct their spawning grounds.
